Big Mistake

So today...Olivia and I went to the park this morning.  She had a bit of a runny nose but it was clear so I just thought it might be due to teething.  As she played and talked, I could tell it was in her chest too...you could hear the congestion.  She didn't let it bother her.  She played as hard as she could for 1.5 hours outside...beautiful weather!!!  On the ride home, you could tell she wasn't feeling her best...her nose wouldn't stop running and she just looked run down.
When we got home, I check her temperature and she had a little bit of a fever.  I went ahead and gave her some Tylenol thinking I would stop the fever before it got worse so I gave her a dose of Tylenol before of nap.  When she woke up, we went on a walk and played around the house again.  She still felt a bit hot to me so I gave her another dose.  After I gave her the 2nd dose, 4 hours later, I looked really hard at the dropper.  I had used a different one this time bc the other one was dirty.  This one had .1, .2, .3...and so on.  I started to think about the  other dropper I used and what it said so I got it out of the dishwasher.  It had 1, 2, 3...and so on...no point in front of it.  I was like "oh sh**".  I started to freak out bc I was supposed to give her .8 ml I thought and I ended up giving her 8ml.  I was so scared. I started searching on the internet for what could happen and what I needed to do.  Luckily, Barnes Jewish has a children's hotline you can call and ask questions and talk to a nurse.  So, I asked the nurse.  She reassured me that Livy would be ok.  That she is actually allowed 5 ml now bc of her weight and I only gave her a little over.  You don't have to worry about an overdose until they take 3 x's the limit. whew.....I was so relieved!!!  I thought I was going to have to rush her to the ER and have her stomach pumped bc of my stupid mistake.  Everything online talks about liver failure, and I didn't want to cause her all those problems.
Luckily, my mistake was not huge.  I will definitely be more careful next time and pay VERY VERY close attention to the amount she is allowed to have AND what the dropper says!!  Lesson Learned!!
